I am accustomed to seeing my BG levels drop from exercise, then rebound from the liver (?) releasing glutathione to bring the level back up. Last night, the level was not too low…~80’s. and the rebound was not too high…~130’s. but then the level dropped back down to the ~80’s overnight there after. I rarely see that amount to pancreatic activity overnight while sleeping!

This is a great profile for the day. Exercising every day appears to be paying off.
I exercised after dinner last night, letting myself digest for a couple hours before starting in. I had indulged slightly and my numbers reflected that by climbing to ~190. So I used the elliptical for 45 minutes. Because I started high, It seems to have taken all of that exercise duration to drop my numbers into the 90’s. But most interesting is that I stayed pretty flat from there all night. I would have expected it to creep back up to ~140’s. I wonder why?
Illness: my slight sore throat persists today. There’s a little more fluid in my sinuses. Ears popping slightly. One drop dribbled to the end of my nose during meditation.
It looks like I’m leveling back out to my earlier BG profile. I peaked after dinner at 166, but then began to drop on my own without any insulin or exercise to 155 by the time I started the elliptical. I then went for 25 minutes and stopped at 93. The level continued down to about 84, then started to bounce back up during the night, arriving at 145 before falling again. The last half of my sleep, I leveled out to 120, which is pretty good. Having a long sleep last night was also nice and may have helped.
Interestingly, I must have higher pancreatic function today. At 8:30 I had my nut cereal breakfast. And it appears to have not budged my blood sugar significantly at all. Not sure what would account for the difference, as compared to a day or two ago.
I stopped exercising on the elliptical (at ~11:30 pm) when my blood sugar dropped from 145 to 93. It continued to fall as low as 80, and then began to rise again, eventually leveling off in the mid-120’s. By not going lower with a longer workout session, I wonder if I limit the bounce-back effect, and keep the subsequent trailing levels lower overall?
Once my blood sugar reached 130 after breakfast, I left the house to go shopping, and walked around the store for about 20 minutes. That little bit of exertion translated into my blood sugar dropping gradually after that. Now I’m just about 100. This speaks to the effectiveness of moving around to help lower ones blood sugar.
Yesterday and today have been fairly low function days. Yesterday afternoon I climbed too high and stayed there. I could have injected insulin, but didn’t. When I exercised before going to bed, my levels dropped below 100, but then climbed back up to about 130 overnight. Other nights I have been 120 or 110.
Now after eating about 23 net carbs for breakfast, I’m back up to 170’s. Other days, that breakfast doesn’t really move my numbers at all. So I decided to go ahead and inject three units of Humalog just now. Hopefully that will bring it back into a reasonable range until dinner time. Several nights running of short sleep, may be the prime contributors to this.
As I head to bed I reflect that I did not manage my levels well today. They were too high.
Now that I’ve worked off the sugar, we’ll see if the effects of the exercise are durable.
Yesterday’s BG levels were not great over the course of the day, but my overnight levels after a long elliptical session looked pretty good. Maybe there is some resetting going on.
